Description
at a time in history, 1930 march 12, somewhere in the outskirts of the state of gujarat in india, Gandhi decided to make a symbolic movement. To march 240 miles and make his own salt from the sea, there by breaking the rules imposed by the British Colony.
While there were other options and more severe rules imposed, fiscally worth breaking, along with the ambivalence among other leaders, Gandhi had his reasoning.
quoted from wiki: "The salt tax was a deeply symbolic choice, since salt was used by nearly everyone in India, to replace the salt lost by sweating in India's tropical climate. An item of daily use could resonate more with all classes of citizens than an abstract demand for greater political rights."
